ThinkGeek started as an idea. A simple idea to create and sell stuff that would appeal to the thousands of people out there who were on the front line and in the trenches as the Internet was forged. ThinkGeek started as a way to serve a market that was passionate about technology, from programmers, engineers, students, lovers of open source, to the masses that helped create the behind-the-scenes Internet culture.

Three out of the four founding ThinkGeek members started an ISP in the Northern Virginia area way way back in 1995. We couldn't afford Solaris, learned about a free UNIX-like OS, and spent almost an entire day downloading it onto over 50 floppies for installation on an old 486 laptop with no cd-rom (thanks Slackware!). After a few years with the ISP gig, the ThinkGeek idea popped into our heads, and, operating out of a spare room at the ISP office we setup shop and launched the site on Friday the 13th, 1999.

T.I.L. Darling - The Online Clothing Boutique was founded in the winter of 2008 in the heart of London by Daniel Hsu and Suphanna "Toon" Bhasitnirandr, two Master in Finance students attending the London Business School. As required by the University of London system, the two were required to complete a final project by the end of their program.

Though neither have any formal training in fashion design or merchandising, both have had a long time fascination of fashion design and styling. Both were also eager to start their own retail business for as long as they could remember. Despite protest from their project advisor, T.I.L. Darling - The Online Clothing Boutique was born.

Many of their classmates wondered why the two were carrying a 10‘ by 12’ backdrop and other equipment through the halls of their university. The student service office receive dozens and dozens of packages for their boutique and while other students were working steadfast on their finance projects and assignments, the two headed to Oxford Circus to pick up stock. Daniel’s small flat was 80% occupied by stock and equipment for the boutique. Showing such committment, they soon garnered the support of their classmates, though many critics remained.

It all started in 1988. A ton of teen retail accessory stores littered the malls, but there weren't any cool, music-inspired accessory destinations for both guys and girls. Enter Hot Topic.

As 1990 rolled around, adding apparel seemed like a no-brainer. What better way than to bring in the ultimate music fan essential—band T-shirts. Customers flipped when they walked into Hot Topic stores and saw Bauhaus, The Cure, TSOL, and Depeche Mode rock tees at their fingertips. Within a year, they had about 50 different band titles, along with rock-inspired clothing lines like Lip Service and Serious. Today, Hot Topic has a growing line of apparel and accessories that includes music tees, band merch, shorts, swimwear, capris, pants, shoes, body jewelry, jeans and more.

As they expanded, they also discovered that customers were equally drawn to the underground cartoon, cult movie, and comic book scenes. It was a unique culture fans could call their own, so they brought the world of South Park, Care Bears, Superman, SpongeBob and tons of other pop icons right to them!

In 1996, with about 60 teen retail stores, Hot Topic became a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange, under the symbol HOTT. They're Crazy Dog T-Shirts and they made it here by accident. A beautiful accident to be sure, and one that has provided them years of entertainment, but still, an accident is an accident whether its spilling your milk or having a surprise kid.

7 years ago, Crazy Dog Owner and CSO (Cheif Snacking Officer), Bill, started Crazy Dog as an eCommerce project in the dark dorm room hallways of Ithaca College. Forgetting to take down the website, orders kept coming in, and Bill kept filling them, working out of his moms basement for a year or 2 before she stopped making him Meatloaf and told him he better start leasing the space or she'd stop making his bed and folding his laundry. Not long after that they started leasing space in the artsy Village Gate in their hometown of Rochester, NY; home of Genesee Beer, Garbage Plates, and a really nice water reservoir. Several years later their space is 7000 square feet of pure awesomeness; and they run the joint with a staff of 9 and love every minute of it.

Wondering what happened to Bill's mean mom who stopped making meatloaf? She still works here Part-Time...packing shirts and doing Bill's Laundry. In all seriousness though, they wouldn't be here without some great customers. They have tons of original designs, and several that come from their partners such as David & Goliath and Junk Food Tees. They are the go to shop for funny tees, clever shirts and hilarious Couture. They wear the shirts they sell, and them think that stands for something nowadays. Real people read and answer your emails, not robots or tiny underpaid children. Welcome. SnorgTees got its start back in May 2004 when their group of friends decided that they theyren't meant for a real job. They got their options narrowed down to international jewel thieves or internet t-shirt tycoons. Since it was the middle of the summer, they weren't able to find enough ski masks, which left t-shirts as their only option. They got the idea for Local Celebrity back in 2003 while they were at a music festival in rural Illinois – Cornerstore. They were rocking out in the middle of a corn field when inspiration struck us like heavy metal thunder, “Let’s ditch our jobs and start a t-shirt company!” Pretty much just like that They packed up their bags and headed to San Diego to move into their grandma’s ranch. The Ryde was born in Laguna Beach circa 2002 when Matt Allen and Mike Figueroa joined forces in an effort to rid the action sports industry of tired logo based designs. Amazingly since then things have taken an increasingly art based approach in the t-shirt lines of those other companies .

The clothing is an outward expression of the way we view the world around us. The ideas that make us laugh and smile manifest themselves in the designs. Many of the designs come straight from Matt's sketchbook, through his computer and onto a shirt. (It's tough to totally eliminate the computer from the process.) It seems that The Ryde's clothing caters to good-humored, laid-back individuals which is just fine with them. That's kind of what they strive to be.
